 Stephanie Dolgoff’s new book, My Formerly Hot Life, dispatches from just the other side of young, is now in book stores and online at Amazon. What’s it about?

 “My Formerly Hot Life” is about looking at the unvarnished truth about getting older–the good, the bad, and those unexpected bitchslaps that still seem to come out of nowhere, even if you’re relatively well adjusted to the fact that you’re not forever 21,”  Stephanie Dolgoff, author.

It stopped being about looks for me many years ago.  I came through the formerly stage pretty much unscathed, but I do agree with Stephanie, it can suck.  Since Formerly Hot is just the other side of young, then it makes sense  that Elderly Hot is just the other side of Formerly.

How we perceive “OLD” is the key to unlocking the internal fountain of youth. Old could mean having lived for many years in comparison with others. It could also mean the baby was only a few hours old. The bad and the ugly can always worm into the good of things. Who’s to say when ogling becomes judging…..her arms are too flabby, her face is falling, or she’s too old to wear that.

 Like fine wine, we age in stages and the effervescence of self rises to spill out who we really are.  In my book, the Magic Collar of Wizard River, the girl pup Shya recognizes, “It’s easy to love the old folks; their unpretentiousness reveals the true self, no longer guarded by what others say or think.”  

I’m still me behind the wrinkles and sagging jowls. My body parts have given way to gravity’s pull and I no longer stay up past the 10 o’clock news.  I’ll never see 65 again, but I’m not too old.  Elderly Hot, you bet!
